A Runner's Paradise

Beck McLean

Start your morning with a gentle breeze and the scent of pine trees in the air at Gunstock, a runner’s paradise filled with trails designed for all levels in our sprawling Nordic Center complex. The well-marked paths wind through serene forests, rolling hills, and stunning vistas of Lake Winnipesaukee—perfect for escaping the ordinary.

Trail Running Highlights

Gunstock's cross-country trails offer a unique blend of smooth paths and rugged terrain, providing something for everyone. Tackle gentle, rolling hills to warm up or take on challenging climbs that get your heart racing. Each run presents an opportunity to experience the diverse landscape as the Nordic Center trails meander alongside lively streams and lush forests. Fern lovers will find a playground among the abundant greenery. Enjoy well-maintained surfaces that range from soft, forgiving dirt roads to smooth gravel. If you want to sharpen your fancy footwork, plenty of craggy surfaces and technical paths await. Ford Bronco even created their own trails within our network to test the off-road capabilities of their vehicles, offering a fun challenge. Try them after a little rain if you don’t mind getting some mud on your legs!

Breathtaking Views

Choose from several scenic routes to reach the summit, but my favorite is the Ridge Trail, which traverses Mt. Rowe and ascends Gunstock Mountain parallel to Stonebar and Flintlock trails. It's a climb, but the views reward your efforts. If you're looking for less elevation, don't overlook the underrated Rock Loop trail. Tucked behind Cobble Mountain, it offers a lookout area of the expansive marsh on the property as well as an alternative front-facing view of Gunstock Mountain.
