Matthew Niolet, Jr., our Grounds Maintenance Technician, was hard at work beautifying the Gunstock Campground when we got ahold of him for a quick chat.

Q: How long have you been working here at Gunstock?
A: I started in 2019 in the kitchen, then I was working parking, then I moved over into Grounds full time.

Q: And you're liking it?
A: When I first started, I wasn't sure if it was right for me but I stuck with it and now I really love it. My dad is into gardening and I work with him so I've gotten into that a bit. Today we're clearing trees and doing a general spring cleanup in the Campground. There's always something to be done and every day is different.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
A: Working on my truck is the main thing for me. I put a new radio in it, fixed some things that were wrong with it... I'm always tinkering with my truck.

Q: Did you take any classes to learn those skills?
A: No, my dad showed me how to fix a lot of things and I've picked up a lot of mechanical skills on my own.

Q: What's a really cool place that you've been?
A: I went to the Flume recently. I'd never been to a place so vast like that before and it made New Hampshire feel like a completely different place.

Q: What's your spirit animal?
A: Something that likes to be on its own a lot. Probably a fox.

Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: I'm good at basketball. I was a point guard in high school and I was on the All-State team. I've also got a pretty good voice.

Q: If you were in a karaoke contest, what would be your winning song?
A: Definitely something country. I think I'd do "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw.

Q: Do you ski or snowboard?
A: I ski, but not well. I started in winter 20-21, my dad brought me up and was teaching me. Everyone was trying to get me to come to the summit but I wasn't ready. This winter I went a few times with a friend who snowboards, I think I'll have to try that next winter.

Q: What do you like most about working at Gunstock?
A: Definitely the people. I work with my dad too so that's great. The work environment is what keeps me coming back.

We appreciate you Junior, thanks for being a part of the Gunstock family!
