Gunstock Reports Successful Season Despite Covid

Belknap County will receive funds in excess of $220,000

June 23 – Gilford, NH: Tom Day, President and General Manager, and Cathy White Chief Financial Officer Gunstock Mountain Resort reported to Gunstock Area Commissioners at their June 23 meeting that despite initial uncertainty and several operational challenges to safely accommodate guests and staff during the Covid-19 pandemic, numbers were not only good, but they were also the best they have ever been

Gunstock opened on December 11 with seven lifts, operating daily for a 114-day season. The 2020-21 Winter Season concluded on April 4 with record-breaking sales, including most ever skier visits, most night tickets sold, most season pass sales, and highest revenue to date.

According to Gary Kiedaisch, Chairman of the GAC (Gunstock Area Commission), long time Ski Industry executive and former President of Stowe Mountain Resort stated “the accomplishments of Tom Day, his management team and their associates are extraordinary. Stimulus dollars offered to privately owned ski resorts were not available to Gunstock due to the county-owned status. Gunstock management, in cooperation with the commission, put together a ‘battlefield’ operating plan as they went into 2020-21 season with operations restricted by state guidelines. The execution of this plan produced results far exceeding the Commission’s expectations.”

“According to New Hampshire’s law, Section 18:1. Gunstock will remit 1.75% of yearly gross operating income to Belknap County,” said White.

“This year, the payment will be between $220,000 to $250,000.”

According to White, cash management and revenues were so strong that the resort never had to draw on their revenue anticipation note or cash reserves, which has never occurred in the history of Gunstock. The resort will start the new year with a strong balance sheet which sets the stage for a successful fiscal 2022.

“Tom Day is a highly seasoned and competent mountain resort and hospitality executive,” said Kiedaisch.

“He’s brought to Gunstock a host of new ideas that have helped strengthen the company’s business.”
